6" Foster Traction Engine

We are pleased to offer for sale this stunning 6" Foster Traction engine, a project we have been working on for a number of years, it is due for completion in the next couple of months although we would be open to a sensible offer to purchase the engine as she is.

We believe this to be only the fourth 6” Foster to be built and there’s a good chance she will be the last as the castings and drawings are no longer available. A truly impressive and big engine the Foster comes out closer in size to a road-loco than other traction engines of the same scale, we estimate completed weight to be around 1.¾ tons. With this likely being the last 6” Foster we had the idea of presenting it similarly to Foster “14625”, the last full size Foster Traction Engine to be built. As such the price includes the engine finished in the full show lining scheme.

We decided to make this into a special engine and gone for the best fittings etc we could find including gauge glasses, lubricator and drain cocks from RA Barkers. The vulcanised rubber tyres were done by B H Leakes and the rears have strakes cut into them to give a comfortable ride and grip on wet rally fields. Also included is a Holroyd Injector.

Several improvements have also been made over the original drawings and castings importantly the cylinder block has had a lot of work done to improve the porting and the valve gear has been re-designed to dramatically improve the power and efficiency of the engine.

Viewing is more than welcome for serious buyers and the engine can be secured with a refundable 50% deposit with the remaining balance payable on completion subject to your satisfactory inspection.

- Machine clack valve castings (included)
- Machine pump body valve section
- Make stuffers gland regulator, valve rod and governors.
- Machine 2nd shaft bearing cap for oil reservoirs
- Make and fit pipework
- Final paint and finish
