6" Foden Steam Wagon

On behalf of the owner we are pleased to offer for sale this impressive 6" Foden C-Type. Built using John Rex castings with the double high cylinder arrangement it is a strong performer on the road and rallyfield and ready for a new owner to enjoy.

Built by a prolific builder of large model steam engines this is the second 6" Foden to come from the stable, the first being a rather long 6 wheeler which we sold a few years ago. Build quality and finish is to a high standard and it has been kept in fine fettle since completion with seemingly little use. The engine runs particularly well and being double high is a very powerful engine pulling away strongly in top gear and storming up the hills. One feature we particularly like is the the cab has no back panels, although aesthetically some might prefer them to be fitted, from a practical point of view it makes driving much easier and especially good for kids who can sit either side of the driver and feel involved.

The Holt Boiler comes with the necessary CE marking and paperwork, water feed is through a crankshaft driven pump and reliable steam injector. Safety valves are a progressive pop-type so easy to set and shut off cleanly. The boiler runs at 200 psi which makes for an relatively efficient engine on coal and water. It has been inspected under the model engineering club scheme since completion however should the new owner prefer we are happy to discuss testing options with our independent commercial boiler inspector.

Overall this is a well sorted engine that is ready to rally and enjoy, the double high cylinder arrangement and high working pressure makes for a very capable machine that eats up the miles on the road, it is also very controllable and comfortable when just pottering around the rallyfield. As with all our ready to rally engines it comes complete with a full set of firing irons, extension chimney, coal oil and a days tuition included.
