4.5" Foden SWB

We are big fans of both miniature Fodens and Steam Traction World products so we were pleased to get our hands on this handsomely finished and well built 4.5" Short Wheel Base example. The engine has been on display for a number of years but has just been through our workshop to be fully recommissioned for use including a full hydraulic and steam test.

STW opted for the twin-high cylinder arrangement on this scale of Foden, personally we find in this scale it is the better option over the compound variation as it makes them easier to drive and seemingly more powerful. The boiler runs at 140psi and is water fed through a crankshaft driven pump and steam injector.

Being 3 speed the engine is versatile for both the road and rally field, the pneumatic tyres make for a comfortable ride and good grip even on muddy fields. For those a bit limited on space the SWB example is a great option, fitting in a similar footprint to a 4" Traction Engine and considerably easier to man handle about than the more common LWB example.

The engine has been through our workshop and we have sorted all the little niggles and any issues found, the biggest job being the removal, cleaning and resealing of the water tanks.

As with all our ready to rally engines it comes complete with a set of firing irons, tube brush, coal, oil and a days tuition included.
