4" Foster. New Boiler Fitted

We are pleased to offer for sale this 4" Foster Traction Engine which has just had a brand new CE Marked boiler fitted and comes fully steam tested. The engine does require a bit of work before the rally season begins but for someone capable in the workshop offers a good solid engine with the sound knowledge the boiler is as good as it can be.

First things first the work required: The main job is the differential which requires an overhaul and re-bush, the pinion gears require replacement but are available from Live Steam Models for £46.00 the pair. We expect this is due to it not being shimmed properly when new rather than excessive use. The drive pins on the rear wheels could also do with looking at. The tender is looking a bit tired and although functional could do with some work in the near future.

Although requiring a few evenings in the workshop, once the work is done we are in no doubt the engine will be a great little runner for years to come. There are fewer and fewer 4" Fosters being built and we are seeing more and more come up for major boiler work or replacement.
