There is no denying that there is something about "Macs", from full size down to miniature they have real presence on the rally field standing considerably bigger than the equivalents from other manufacturers. After playing with this one I am quite surprised that there is so few in this scale built, a powerful machine which I have no doubt will out-pull and out-run most 4" Traction engines, but at a size and weight that makes transport and storage a much simpler task.
Built in 2006 the engine has starred in Old Glory articles and for many years was well known on the rally field, it underwent a repaint at some point however after a few years in storage the paint work has not faired very well, although presentable in "working clothes" the new owner may choose to tidy things up. Clearly a well built engine when new, it still runs a treat and goes nicely. As you would expect it would benefit a bit of work on the top end but we are not talking a full rebuild by any means, think more tinkering in the evenings between rallies than a full strip down.
The Franklin and Bell boiler is water fed through a crank driven pump and Double B steam injector. It runs at 175psi so as you can imagine packs a bit of a punch! Even in top gear on the hills round the farm it was hardly working. It had a new set of tubes in the winter of 2019/2020 but then wasnt steamed until 2024 due to covid and previous owners health.
The engine comes complete with driving trolley, steam raising blower, firing irons, coal, oil and a days tuition. For further information or to arrange a viewing please do not hesitate to contact us.
Important Note: We recommend when purchasing any steam vehicle to employ the services of your own boiler inspector for independent advice and not solely rely on previous test reports.
