We are pleased to offer for sale this "pocket rocket" Maxitrak Aveling steam tractor, we have had a few of these engines in over the years and they punch well above their weight in terms of power, speed and ease of use. Their party trick is a very fast top-gear which sees the little Aveling go flying pass larger scale engines on the road.

The engine comes with the Maxitrak driving trolley which as you can see on the photos has beer barrel mounted for reserve water. We have been zooming around the yard most of the afternoon and the engine performed well and steamed freely, for a small 3" boiler it was surprisingly easy to keep on top of the boiler management. The top works is generally all nice and tight and although an older engine we assume it has had work to the motion in recent years.

Although a good useable engine we would say it isn't quite up to the standard of our normal "ready to rally" offerings. A couple of things came loose while trundling about and although nothing major and we have sorted them the new owner shouldn't be surprised if they have to open up the tool box for the first few steaming's. The pipework and paintwork although functional is lacking finesse. This may be doing it a bit of an injustice but rather people be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.

Boiler testing in recent years has been done commercially with the last hydraulic in June 2023. These Avelings are fitted with a copper boiler which are a much better option that steel in this size. Water feed is through a crank driven pump, hand pump and injector.

Overall this a great little outfit for someone and an affordable way into the hobby to have a rally capable engine. For more information or to arrange a viewing, please do not hesitate to contact us. UK wide delivery and export available if required.

Important Note: We recommend when purchasing any steam vehicle to employ the services of your own boiler inspector for independent advice and not solely rely on previous test reports.
